November 2025 - A Seasonal Diary

A seasonal diary of nature spots and little moments

“November comes and November goes, with the last red berries and the first white snows”

Hello November

BONFIRE NIGHT

Bonfire night in jumpers, where’s the woolly hats, and big coats gone? I always remember bonfire night as being breath chillingly cold with fingers frozen in gloves holding the sparklers. Weather adside though we were lucky enough to have our own private bonfire on the airfield with homemade pizzas, mulled wine and sparklers, it felt magic, next year I want more of the family here, more chairs and some cake and it will be just the best.

THE WOODS

The woods this month felt spectacular, like a season finale, the yellow so bright and all over, and so quickly do they take their bow and exit, stage right with only the very determined hanging on until the end of the month.  I feel I have neglected my watching of nature. I dipped my toe in, had a little walk here and there but time spent outside has been few and far between. I suppose the run up to Christmas will always leave an illustrator desk-bound for the majority of the time.

Garden Days

Usually my sheer neglect of the garden means by November most flowers are dry, parched and brown but for some reason this year they’ve done so well and we’ve had cosmos, dahlias right until late November. Could the dry summer have sent those roots down deep? The snow did come though and like a light switch it turned the garden off.

29th November - CHRISTMAS TREE DAY!

One of my favourite days of the year, I love it. The house transforms into something utterly magical. We have two trees, one in the living room where all our precious ornaments live and a real on in the kithen filled with oranges and 2 photos of the boys, one for each Christmas they’ve had together. Of course this year is their 3rd and so we will need to try and get another photo of them both stood next to each other.

Stories from the studio, a little glimpse into my watercolour creations from this month…

What has November been like for you? Have you seen anything out in nature that’s made you smile or just peeked your interest? I would love to know, tell me in the comments below...
